Non-Surgical Treatment
What is Synovial Fluid Replacement Therapy?
SFRT is a non-surgical procedure that increases the jelly-like fluid (synovial fluid) in your knee joint. The injected fluid is almost equivalent to the natural synovial fluid found in a normal, healthy knee joint.
The therapy works by increasing the level of Sodium Hyaluronate, which is a normal ingredient of healthy articular cartilage. This helps restore the natural cushioning and lubrication your knee needs for smooth, pain-free movement.

Why Choose SFRT
How SFRT Benefits You
Smoother Joints
Makes the articular surface smoother, allowing easier and more natural joint movement.
Reduced Stiffness
Decreases stiffness and makes the joint more free for movement throughout the day.
Less Pain
Significantly decreases pain while walking, climbing stairs, and performing daily activities.
Better Mobility
Increases your capacity to walk longer distances with greater comfort and confidence.
Slows Arthritis
The overall speed of arthritis progression gets reduced, preserving your natural knee longer.

Is SFRT Right for You?
Who Should Get SFRT?
SFRT is best suited for patients with Stage 1, Stage 2, and early Stage 3 knee arthritis. The decision is based on the patient's age, lifestyle, problems in Activities of Daily Living (ADL), walking and stair-climbing patterns, and X-ray changes.
Early Treatment = Maximum Benefits
If SFRT is taken in the early stages of arthritis, it may slow down the progression of the disease and give you maximum benefits, preserving your natural knee for years to come.
Not Suitable for Advanced Arthritis
SFRT is not useful once there is advanced arthritis of late Stage 3 or Stage 4. In these cases, joint replacement is the answer for lasting relief.

Stage 2
Pain on activity, decreased joint space
Stage 3 (Early)
Moderate difficulty, bone spurs visible
Stage 3 (Late)

Alternative Option
Intra-articular Steroid Injection
An alternative for specific situations
For some patients, an intra-articular steroid injection may be a suitable alternative to SFRT. This option is considered in specific situations:
- Economic or medical constraints — For patients who can't go for an operation due to economic or medical reasons
- Surgery avoidance — For those who are scared of surgery or don't want surgery in their lifetime
- Reduces inflammation — Reduces pain by decreasing inflammation and swelling of the joint
- Symptom management — A good option for managing pain and discomfort when other approaches aren't feasible
